9 easy things to do with your children over Halloween half-term near Scunthorpe

We get it – half-term is challenging.

As lovely as it is spending more time with your children, it’s difficult thinking of meaningful things to do every day with them. SO rather than spend hours scratching your head over what to do this October half term, why not try our wholesome suggestions instead?!

From Halloween things to do at home to activities in the fresh air, we’re here to make sure your children don’t get bored this half-term. Spooky crafts? Den building? Pumpkin picking? There’s something for everyone to get excited about.

And the best part? They’re all inexpensive and easy to do, meaning you don’t have to break the bank to provide your kids with worthwhile entertainment.

Fun things to do at home

There are loads of easy things to do with your children in Scunthorpe that don’t even require leaving your house.

1. A crafty idea – get crafting!

Why not do some spooky Halloween crafts? You and your kids could create spiders out of pipe cleaners and hide them in cupboards and under duvets around the house, giving each other a fright whenever you find one.

2. Mummy madness

Or perhaps the Halloween classic of wrapping each other up like a mummy. All you need for that is a bit of spare toilet roll and the willingness to look a bit silly.

3. DIY bowling

While you’ve got the toilet roll out, make it into a ball, line up some cups or buckets in a triangle formation, and you’ve got yourself a bowling alley in your hallway. That sounds like a strike!

4. Spooky scavenger hunt

Maybe you could do a spooky scavenger hunt, hiding sweets around your house and garden and giving your kids clues as to where they are.

5. Fangtastic face painting

Or you could buy some cheap face paint and decorate your children’s faces (and let them have a go on yours if you’re brave enough).

6. Relax at the home cinema

When all that’s tired them out, you could create a home cinema with cushions, sheets and snacks, and watch a scary movie (maybe not too scary, unless you want them sleeping in your bed every night for a month!).

As you can see, there’s so many cheap and fun things to do with your kids in Scunthorpe, all from the comfort of your own house (and this is only scratching the surface). But what about if you wanted something outdoors?...

Fun things to do outdoors

If you’re looking for cost-effective activities in the great outdoors (I’m not sure how ‘great’ all this rain is, mind you), then there are lots of those in Lincolnshire as well.

7. Get out into the woods

Walk around any of the trails at the Ashby Ville Nature Reserve, witnessing the beautiful lakes, wetlands and wildlife. Or go to Brumby Wood to escape the bustle of town life under an autumnal canopy.

You could also take your children to Central Park (not the New York one, alas). With a rich range of trees and shrubbery, as well as the fountain gardens and designated children’s play areas for all ages, there’s something for everyone at the park.

8. Den building

Why not build a den from fallen bits of branch and leaves and pretend you’re hiding from a monster (just make sure you put things back to how you found them when you’re done!)?

9. Potion making, pumpkin picking and carving at The Pink Pig Farm

And if you and the kids enjoy all that beautiful fresh air and want more fabulous Halloween activities to throw yourselves into together, then you should definitely join us at The Pink Pig Farm.

We have lots of fun Halloween things to do this half-term, like pumpkin picking – let your child choose a pumpkin, pop it in their wheelbarrow and carve their own design into it (under your supervision, of course).

They can also try potion making with Windle the Witch and can even ride on her magical broom. And once they’ve worked up an appetite from all those activities, head over to our café for some spooky sweet treats.

So join us for this year’s Pumpkin Festival extravaganza, complete with full farm access. Click here to book tickets.

Or if you’re in search of something not Halloween themed but still outdoors, then there’s lots of other things to do at our farm too (and lots more delicious homemade food). With acres of space and oodles of activities, there’s every reason to pop in and say hello this half-term.
